Focused California is a collection of three works from my greater California series.

This body of digitally native illustrations has been a large focus of my practice for the past half-decade, spanning over 80 completed pieces at the time of this writing. Through this series, I have relived my memories from childhood to adulthood, explored common tropes of the West as seen in American film and literature, and studied how the US state continues to shape global economies through centuries of evolving industries. I am thankful to have witnessed California reach various corners of the global art world with individual pieces shown in exhibitions including at The Museum of Art and Light, Paris Photo Fair, Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated, The US Department of State Art in Embassies Program, and Korea Blockchain Week to name just a few. By placing each new work into the hands of collectors, I hope to share a piece of my personal story and life journey.

California has never been a single place or moment. It is an ongoing collective experience tied together by shared common memories of its inhabitants and visitors. Focused California attempts to share these very ideas: a figure caught behind glass at a diner, a chrome tanker on its way to the next fueling station, a common “nutritious” breakfast for America’s children. From macro to micro, these pieces are a reminder to look twice at the things we have stopped seeing.
