Commissioned by UPenn Psychiatry + Neuroscience to mark the completion of a multiyear study on pain, opioids, and emotion, and its in inclusion in the scientific journal Nature.

The work’s multiple elements visualize the study’s novel gene therapy pain treatment: icosahedron-shaped adeno-associated viruses, poppy flowers to depict the opioid-mimicking properties on molecular receptors in the prefrontal cortex, and serene, transcendent cloud textures representing the feeling of pain relief.
