NeoNigiri: A Thousand Dots of Flavor
Description
NeoNigiri: A Thousand Dots of Flavor is a digital expression of sensory memory and an exercise in light and color. Created using a custom-trained AI model rooted in pointillism, the work reimagines the familiar subject of Japanese Sushi as a vibrant composition made entirely of digitally rendered dots.
The Sushi appears almost photographic at a distance, and refracts into kaleidoscopic abstraction when zoomed in. The image thus connects to multiple aesthetic legacies, both digital and analog: pixels, the tradition of stippling, and classic Ben-Day dots from printed mass media.
Playfully examining taste, memory, and image through digital reinterpretation, the piece is a sensuous portrait of contemporary consumption: of food, of images, and of algorithms.
