Moonfall Over A Forest Of Metal and Glass (RW2737)
Moonfall Over A Forest Of Metal and Glass (RW2737)
Description
From the window of an airplane high above Nevada, the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Facility is a bright glint on the landscape. I first spotted the sprawling solar farm flying from Chicago to San Francisco and was startled by how bright it was; an artificial sun. After two years of investigation, I was finally able to gain access to photograph the array during the full moon of March 23, 2016, known as the Crow Moon. This image was made at dawn, just as the moon was setting and the mirrors made their most dramatic movements to align with the rising sun. Despite their size, they move almost silently but for the sound of the wind howling through the structures. Looking like a vast pixellated sea, this image emblemizes how technology has become so pervasive in our lives. If you zoom in closely, a lone crow perches. This image was captured with the newly-released 100-megapixel Phase One IQ3 and is minted in full resolution.
