Invisible Stories
Description
DeeKay creates art about humanity. With this new animation, DeeKay turns his eye to Hong Kong, rendering the Asian metropolis in his signature style characterized by nostalgic video game aesthetics and joyful tenderness. Commissioned by Art Basel Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tourism Board, the artwork will be projected onto the Hong Kong Club Building from March 25-29, 2026 every evening from 7-11pm (opens March 24 at 7:30pm).
The 24-second animation is a buzzing celebration of the city. We see a vibrant, all-over street scene with dozens of diverse characters traversing a busy Hong Kong intersection. All manner of people are present - different ages, races, and occupations - with legible symbols of Hong Kong interspersed throughout, tying the scene (and the people) together. Here is Hong Kong as both a specific place, and a universal locale on the world’s cultural stage.
